Spring at Deer Park Lodge

Sandhill_crane Our spring season starts with the opening of the Trout/Salmon season the last Saturday of April. Followed by the pike/walleye season opening on May 15 and finally bass season the last Saturday of May.  Fishing for whitefish and minominee off the shores of Lake Superior is also available all spring.

All spring and summer ORV riding and rock hounding are also available right from the Lodge. The birdwatching heats up with the spring migration. We can expect sightings of Merlin, American Kestrel, Sandhill Cranes and many more as the temperatures climb and the days get longer.

Whitetail_fawn_2 Of course all the animals are having their young this time of year and they are very active. Don't be surprised if you get to see a bear cub or young whitetail fawn, or even  a moose when you're out looking at wildflower, wild birds and waterfowl.

Summer at Deer Park Lodge

Muskallonge_sunset_2 Our beautiful, private beach is gently sloping and very sandy making it ideal for swimming, beach games, catching some rays or just relaxing and watching one of those awesome Muskallonge Lake sunsets. The lake is fairly shallow and warms quickly in the spring, and is perfect for swimming by mid-June.

Bike riding, hiking, fishing, boating or canoeing the nearby Two Hearted River are just a few of the many things to do around the area throughout the summer.  With any luck from mother nature the wild blueberries should be readily available by late summer. Just about everywhere you go you'll find a sampling of the Upper Peninsula's wildflowers, as well as diverse bird species. Ask us for birding tips, or just hang out around the lodge and watch them come to the feeders.

Smallmouth_pd And don't forget to take advantage of the small row boat which is included with each cabin rental. It's nice to be on the water, and perch, pike, walleye and smallmouth bass are waiting. Fishing licenses, gear and bait are available in the General Store.

Fall at Deer Park Lodge

Mike_fish Fall is a beautiful time to explore Deer Park Lodge and its surroundings. The crowds visiting the area will thin out considerably after Labor Day, but that doesn't mean there isn't plenty to do.

When fall arrives the steelhead and salmon fishing pick up as they prepare enter the streams for spawning. Bear and small game hunting are the first to lead off hunting season, followed by waterfowl and deer seasons.

Autumn_2 We usually consider the first ten days of October as the peak of our fall color season.  The wild blueberries are still available as are the fall mushrooms.

Winter at Deer Park Lodge

Snowmobiling Winter has usually settled in for the holidays and the snowmobiling begins. There are hundreds or miles of trails accessible right from our Lodge. With Muskallonge Lake just out the door, ice fishing is an option several of our guests enjoy.  We try to keep a cross country ski trail set either in the woods or on the lake throughout the winter for all to enjoy.

Beach_shelf_ice_3677 The beautiful, rugged shores of Lake Superior are just minutes away, and the winter months often serve up beautiful days for long walks along the beach with hardly a soul in sight. It's not unusual to come upon an agate or two, just revealed by a recent storm.
