Spring really does want to show up but we need it to show up for more than a day or two. We received up to 8 inches of snow over the past weekend and we haven't had much warmth to help melt it off. Thus most of the two tracks in the area are still not passable even with four-wheel drive. Many of our roads and trails are showing dirt in many places but it's those areas that are shaded or are in drifting areas. There's still have plenty of snow to get stuck in. This week's forecast might help.
Steelhead fishermen come prepared if you looking to get into the river early. The local guys have been fishing the mouth and going in via County Rd. 500. If you wish to enter the river from the west side you should probably bring a sled or four-wheeler. Yes, there are lots' of fish in the river- mostly fall hold-overs, but fish are being caught. Word is also out that some nice fish are already being taken off the pier in Grand Marais.
Interesting enough Muskallonge Lake has opened up even though we have had several nights with sub-20 degree weather. So, we are making progress. Possibly this week with warmer temps coming into the area, we'll open up and begin back country traveling again.
Our reservation schedule has several openings still available throughout the summer. May has several openings available. Early June has the two lake side cabins and well as one of our one bedroom units open for most the month. And again in June (18-25) we have a two-bedroom unit open. July shows a one bedroom unit available for most the month. August has a two-bedroom cabin open most the month in addition to the big cabin being available Aug. 20-27. Check out all the cabins here.
So if you are thinking about a vacation in one of the prettiest places in the U.P. give us call.
Enjoy the spring.
