Baby it is cold outside. Woke up this a.m. to single digit temps and another couple of inches of snow. We sure are lacking in the total amount of snow thus far. But, we are within only one good storm of getting us back to where we should be. (Check the NOAA forecast)
Most of the folks we talked to over the weekend had pretty good snowmobiling. That was made possible by the lack of people venturing north for the long weekend. Sure was quiet around here. Hopefully, that was because of the weather, the lack of snow, and folks staying close to home for the holidays.
The winds picked up on Saturday and stayed with us for a couple of days. Last night's winds chills were way below the zero mark. Good thing we have a nice fireplace (lined with snowmen!) and plenty of good football on TV. We did pick up an additional 4-6 inches of the snow Saturday night through to Tuesday morning. Every little bit helps.
Ice on Muskallonge Lake is probably approaching the 10 inch mark. The past couple days really helped to add some much needed inches of ice to the area lakes. We were riding sleds safely on Muskallonge over the weekend. We hear ice fishing is taking place on many of the lakes around the area, but for the most part people are still walking out. Exercise extreme caution on any of these lakes, especially if you are the first ones out. (Subscribe to the DNR Weekly Fishing Report, which includes the UP and ice conditions - the most recent is for 12/22/11)
We have several openings for reservations during the next few weeks, so if you are looking to come up for some riding, ice fishing or to just get away, we'd be glad to have you staying with us. Trail conditions are improving with each snow. Check here for updates.
Be well, stay warm and don't forget the layering effect when dressing for the outdoors.
