It's that time of the year again, where the days just seem to fly by. We find ourselves sitting around waiting for the snow to melt and then when it finally does there are 100 items on the "must do list" - not to mention a whole bunch of items on the "we'd like to do list".
Anyways, we are back in action. The store is cleaned up and getting stocked up. Laundromat has been spring cleaned and waxed and we have just finished up putting new vinyl floors in our front cabins. It sure dressed up those two units down by the lake. Last time they saw new flooring must of been sometime in the 70's.
Muskallonge Lake appears to have come up a bit but not nearly what we usually do in the spring time.We have only gotten 2 1/2 inches of rain all spring, add that to our low snow fall, it doesn't look good for another year for our favorite lake. Hopefully, Ma' Nature will spread some moisture on us on a regular basis this summer.
While we are still a rain or two away from the leaves coming out, and the last couple of mornings were still below 30, a lot of the birds are back now. Got some good looks at a northern flicker in the yard while he was looking deperately for something to munch on. We saw a group of five Blue Herons flying over this morning.
For the past several days we have had a group of Bonaparte Gulls hanging out on the lake and two nights ago we found a group of about 15 Coots cuddled up on the shoreline. We also get the songs in the morning of the Brown Creeper and the Hermit Thrush. Even the peepers are coming out and singing to each other.
The trout season opener last weekend was a real good for the steelhead fishermen and just alright for those looking for brookies or rainbows in some of the area lakes and rivers. Steelhead continue to be active and the water is dropping making wading a much better possibility. The beautiful Lake Superior rocks have thawed and agate hunters are out in force. We have seen several nice rocks already. There seems to be a lot of rock up and down the shoreline right now.
Still have several openings throughout the month in the cabins, in addition to some prime dates being available throughout the summer. For instance:
- Our two lakefront cabins are open June 4-11
- Several openings the week of June 25-July 2
- The Big Cabin and #2 (lakeside) are both available July 9-16
You can always check our Availability Calendar for an up-to-date look at all openings.
We know gas prices are high but keep in mind once you get here we have so much to do right here, or real close by, that you won't have to buy hardly any gas. We'd love to have you and we feel real good that we can provide an affordable yet very enjoyable vacation. Come on up!
Cheers,
Mike & Monica
