For three days now we have been hearing about this big storm coming in. Well, half way through it and it's been a pretty mild day. We have picked up a couple of inches of a very fine snow and it appears that the snow will be with us for several more hours. But so far the high winds and snow/sleet mix is staying away.
Last week we picked up about 10" of snow. The snowmobile trails are probably in as good of shape as they have been most of the year. If you haven't gotten your fill of riding in this winter you shouldn't delay in loading the gear up and heading north. The amount of snow we have on the ground is light enough that a good warm front lasting a few days might just put the hurt to this season. But right now, it's awfully nice, and it looks like a 50/50 chance of more snow in the coming days! (check NOAA forecast)
Heard our first sign of spring last night while we were out walking Zeta. A Northern Saw-whet Owl was out making his calls known for everyone to hear. If you haven't heard this noise before it resembles the noise you would hear when a vehicle with one of those warning signals is going off while it is backing up (really, listen to its voice on the link above). Upon hearing this noise it usually sounds much farther away then it actually is. We have had success tracking down and then walking up to this little owl while it's making this noise. They usually don't sit too high up in the trees.
SPECIAL NOTE: We have added an availability calendar to our web site that will show what current openings you can reserve. We hope this will make it easier for folks to see what dates are open for each particular cabin.
You will notice that unlike past years we have several choice dates available throughout the summer months. Keep in mind if you are looking to book dates in the summer we book a week at a time Saturday to Saturday (Sat thru Fri nights). Prior to June 18 and after Labor Day we will glad to book rooms for just three or four nights.
Enjoy your day and get outside and do something fun!!!
