The roller coaster of winter weather continues at Deer Park. We started last week with some wonderful winter weather with the temps into the mid 30's each day and the sun out. Even county road 407 was almost free and clean of snow and ice.
But then things changed real quickly. Wednesday night it started to snow pretty
good and just like that overnight we had 10" of new snow. The snowing continued all day on Thursday and this came accompanied with some really heavy winds that lasted for a day or so. The drifting around the neighborhood was pretty intense. I have included a couple of pictures of neighbors cabins that aren't used all winter. No chance of getting into these cabins for a while!!!
The snowmobile trails help up pretty good throughout the week. We are starting to see a lot more riders up now. Conditions downstate have deteriorated considerably, so more and more folks are coming north. Grooming continues on a regular basis and for the most part trails have been really nice and flat. [ Check trail reports for Newberry and Grand Marais ]
Last week during the nice weather, with a south wind, Lake Superior was wide open with only the ice bluffs built up close to shore showing signs of snow and ice. Since last week's storm and the continual wind off the lake all you can see is ice. Here's the view from the Ranger Station.
We still have plenty of openings for the month of March available. Unless the weather drastically warms up quickly it looks like March will be a great time to come up and do some riding. Longer daylight and warmer days, in addition to all this snow we have, will certainly make for a great time. [ Seven day NOAA forecast ]
