The weather has been from one extreme to the other the past couple of weeks. Two weeks ago we had five days of the prettiest fall weather one could ask for. We tried to spend as much time outside as possible. Agate hunting was very pleasant. Didn't have much success there, though (bummer). Spent one day fishing the surf with a couple of buddies. I had three opportunities to land nice steelhead and lost all three. I did make up for it a bit with the number of Menominee that I caught. My neighbor had two real nice steelhead. To add to this story, a buddy joined us in the same spot this morning. Between the three of us fishing we never had a bite.
Over the weekend I had a great day with a cabin guest (friend) and his son (home from the Marines for a couple days and back overseas soon) fishing the Two Hearted River. For the majority of the day we
were in snow squalls and heavy winds. But when you got into the river bottoms all the winds stayed way up high. You could hear it and see it but it was not bothering us fishermen. We ended up catching three fish that day. Two coho's, one a nice sized male that Eric caught, and I caught a nice steelhead.
If we had sat around the cabin that day waiting for the weather to let up we would of never gotten out. We ended up getting enough snow to cover the ground good. That didn't last but a couple of days here along the lake shore. And today it has rained and all the snow is gone. Muskallonge Lake shows no sign of freezing over yet. In the past, we could usually count on the lake being frozen over prior to deer season.
Deer Season is on us!!! Opening day was Saturday. I don't think any of us up here scored on a deer with our bows. Lots of movement going on at night but the daytime deer sightings have been limited. It does seem like the rut is just coming on and with the extra guys in the neighborhood this weekend maybe that big boy will come walking by. I love taking the time and going around and seeing the different camps. Having a couple of drinks and listening to everyone's days and especially the old tales that get shared around. Deer season is still a big deal for a lot of camps in the area. Hopefully, snow will come as the forecast is projecting.
As always, give is a call if we can assist you. Maybe I'll see you out there.
