Winter continues to hang on. We have yet to have a meltdown of any significance and the thermometer has yet to break over the 40 degree mark. For the lack of any other term we sure are having an "old fashion winter".
Snowmobiling could not be any better than what it is. Last weekend we had two guys here for two and half days that rode almost 700 miles. The last day they put in 309 miles, which is a huge number, but which also reflects on how nice the trails are.
The spring birds have not made their presence known yet, however the pileated woodpeckers are being very busy and making lots of noise throughout the neighborhood. Yesterday we were visited by a fabulously beautiful silver fox. It walked right into the yard and explored under the bird feeder before slowly moving on. We have also seen several coyotes in the neighborhood lately. Must be food sources are getting weaker as the winter holds on, and I also think mating season is in the air.
The other day I threw out on the ice a bunch of dead minnows. It didn't take the ravens 15 minutes to find them, but unfortunately for them it took the bald eagle about 12 minutes. This fully mature adult kept very busy protecting this free meal. These eagles are so cool to watch while they're on the ground and strutting their stuff.
Twice in the past week we have picked up enough snow that the tractor had to come out and get things cleaned up. The weather man predicts more strong northwest winds for the next couple of days, which in turns lends itself to more lake effect snow.
We have a lot of options for cabin rentals during the next few weeks, so if you are thinking about a few days of getting away, and taking advantage of the last stretch of winter in the woods, give us a call. We can pretty much assure you that you'll practically be all by yourself in this beautiful Upper Peninsula north country.

Have a great week.
