Color on the U.P. - yellows, oranges, and Pinks!

What a wonderful time of year it is.  The last couple of days have been fabulous; a bit windy but warm, sunny and the fall colors are really coming on nicely.  If you are thinking about coming north for some color touring we would encourage you to start making plans. The next couple of weeks should be ideal.

Usepa_fallcolor Salmon fishing in the river has slowed down a bit. Still several nice fish were taken this weekend and now the "Pinks" have shown up also.  The reports on Lake Superior surf fishing have been quite favorable as long as you can get a north or northwest wind to fish with. Three of us fished Friday night in gorgeous weather, but the winds were heavy out of the south. We never hooked a fish. We'd been better off doing some Lake Superior Agate hunting with the weather being so nice.

All reports out of several different lakes over the weekend were fair at best.  Some nice trout are still being caught in several Luce County lakes, as well as a few perch in the Blind Sucker.  Lake fishing pressure is so light this time of year it is difficult for us to give you an accurate report.

It's a great time of year to be up north.  We still have openings until late October.  Give us a call if we can provide you with more information or help you out in any way.

Cheers,

M and M

Fall color is arriving but the fish are still here!

Autumn_3 It didn't take long after Labor Day for fall to show up.  We have gotten much needed rain over the last couple of weeks and the temps have dropped considerably since the middle of last week.  Our fall colors  are really starting to show up. Due to the lack of rain all summer long and the stress on the trees leaves are turning quickly and many are falling as we see heavy winds coming through with these rain storms.

I have spent a couple of evenings on the river this week and have had good success.  The first night I caught a small Chinook salmon and then the next night with a bit more effort I caught and released two Coho's and brought home one eight pound Chinook.  The reports off the mouth of the Two Hearted are also encouraging.  We have a cabin guest that did very well fishing for Brookies the other night.  Plus, everyone fishing the lake seems to be catching a lot of fish. No real braggers but plenty of fish!

The storms and heavy winds associated with them have been turning the Lake Superior shore line over.  The agate hunters are doing well. But its that time of year that proper layered clothing is a must if you are going to spend any amount on time on the beach. Gortex and fleece are wonderful!!!

Geese Birds are starting to move and showing signs of migrating through the area.  Two flocks of geese were spotted over the lake heading south. Most the robins are gone. The crows are in big groups now.  We saw a Northern Saw-whet Owl the other night and Monica spotted a rather rare bird the other day, the somewhat secretive Sora, while walking the dogs. In addition our local nuthatches and chickadees are doing their best to empty the feeders every day now. What they don't get, the flying squirrels will finish off at night.

Store Hours for the remainder of the Fall will be:
Sunday: noon to 5:00 PM
Mon-Tues-Thurs-Fri-Sat: 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Closed on Wednesday--designated play day!!!

We have several opening throughout the next month and will be glad to have you if only for a few days.  There's a bunch of different things to do during the fall in this beautiful country.  Come on and spend a few days with us, even if it's just to sit by the beach and watch one of these beautiful sunsets we get this time of year. Give us a call and we'll be happy to help you reserve a cabin.

Until next time---tight lines
